Yes, we cast both ACTRA and non-union jobs.
We sure do. We have cast union and non-union performers for many spots, but our strength is in our ability to find real people and stories that traditional casting companies have a hard time with.
It all depends on the job. We’ve done two-day print and AOPP jobs and large eight-week jobs that involve a lot of story research. For most real people jobs we are engaged for at least a week or two to get great results.
Yes. We have a comfortable studio in Toronto’s west end with ample free street parking that is capable of seeing around 150 people per day. If we need more space, we rent.
We also pride ourselves on collecting great self-tapes and conducting virtual interviews/discovery sessions via Skype or FaceTime.
For campaigns where people are filmed in their homes, we can even conduct location interviews and scout for you.
We often hear concerns about non-actors being unreliable. Real people casting needs to be handled differently than traditional casting. We have a lot of experience dealing with this unconventional style of casting to ensure we get you great results, and reliable people.
Short answer- we leave no stone unturned. Unlike strictly casting actors, where you put out a breakdown to agents and actors, each casting call we handle is tailored specifically based on the job at hand. This involves everything from extensive phone and web outreach, social media outreach/social listening and advertising, cold-calling truck stops, and talking to people at coffee shops – and we love doing all of it!
A ground glass is the glass surface on an old wooden camera through which you frame your subject. Andrew used one of these cameras as an artist years ago and wanted to keep his roots in mind when naming Groundglass Casting.
