EMERALD GARDEN - SHORT FILM - OLLIE'S FAMILY

GRANDMA – SUPPORTING ROLE (SOC)- FEMALE- 65+ – $300/day
Grandma is your quintessential 1st generation Canadian. She and her husband immigrated to Canada to built a better life for their family with nothing but hard work and determination. Grandma proudly displays an oversized wooden spoon and fork on her kitchen wall. Grandma has no filter, and she’s not worried about triggering anyone, including Ollie. Although she’s tough as nails and she has a hard time feeling her feelings, Grandma loves Ollie and wants the best for him. Grandma needs to be fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese

UNCLE KENNY – SUPPORTING ROLE (PP) – MALE- 40-55 –  $300/day
Uncle Kenny is a bit of an odd duck. He works in IT and jumps into any conversation he hears with his “two cents.” He’s socially awkward and doesn’t understand when he’s making people uncomfortable. He’s blunt, but overall, he means well. Uncle Kenny and our lead Ollie play in the film’s climax. Uncle Kenny should have decent performing chops and needs to be fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese.

UNCLE DAVID – SUPPORTING ROLE (PP) – MALE- 40-55 – $300/day
Uncle David is warm and welcoming. He’s an accountant by day and and avid golfer who loves a good game of Scrabble. Similar to Ollie, he’s a people pleaser. Uncle David and our lead Ollie play in the film’s climax. Uncle David does not need to be fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese.

AUNT CAROL – SMALL SUPPORTING ROLE (PP) – FEMALE- 40-55 – $300/day
Married to Uncle David, Aunt Carol runs the show. Although happy, she’s not as outgoing as him but she’s the planner, and “failure to prepare is preparing to fail” type. Always the one to order at the Dim Sum restaurant, or wrangle an order on Uber Eats. She needs to be fluent in Mandarin.

If Shortlisted, Online Interview (CALLBACK): May 31st
If Booked, Shoot: 1 day between July 25th – August 9th

EMERALD GARDEN - SHORT FILM - OLLIE

OLLIE- LEAD- 20s- MALE- HALF CHINESE – HALF WHITE- $400/day

Ollie is from the middle-class burbs. He grew up playing ball hockey on the cul de sac with his buds as the street lights flickered on. He’s a bit of a nerd, somewhat of a perfectionist, and loves to learn new things- a budding “modern renaissance man.”

He grew up with hard-working parents and now it’s time for him to cut his teeth and establish himself in the big city. He’s soft spoken and introverted- concerned about how people perceive him, but doing his best to exude confidence and please people. As a tall guy hears “do you play basketball”, Ollie has heard “what’s your background?” and “where are you from” a few too many times.

Our hero needs to have a personal connection to this lived experience. He should be ready and excited to work with a Director who has experienced the same. Acting experience and training, including improv and theatre is preferred.

KEY DATES:

If Shortlisted, Online Interview (CALLBACK): May 31st
If Booked, Shoot: 2 days between July 25th – August 9th
